Description

The oldest cultivated crop in the world is the Taro plant or Colocasia. It has been grown in parts of tropical and subtropical Asia for more than 10,000 years. It now has become very popular with growers all over the USA as a large leafed, ornamental tropical landscape and water plant. Colocasia reach an average four feet tall with a clump of large, heart shaped leaves. They are thirsty plants that perform great in ponds and marginal areas. The also do well in landscape, on a patio, or as a mixed container centerpiece.

Cultivation

The Black Magic variety does well in full sun, but prefers partial shade or filtered sun. Taro requires medium to heavy water and will do best in a wet environment. Grows 3-6 feet tall, Soil type: Clay, Loam, Sand; USDA Hardiness Zone: 8-10,
